The E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers has infected 75 people, up from 49, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Of the 61 people with available information, 22 were hospitalized, with two developing hemolytic uremic syndrome, a condition that can lead to kidney failure.
The outbreak, traced to slivered onions supplied by Taylor Farms, impacted about 900 McDonald's restaurants across several U.S. states. McDonald's has initiated a voluntary recall and paused serving Quarter Pounders in affected locations. Other fast food chains, including Burger King and Taco Bell, have also removed onions from their menus.

Despite product recalls, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the public risk is low. McDonald's shares dropped 3% on Friday.
