Pete Hegseth: Fox News Host and Former Army Veteran Nominated for Secretary of Defense

Pete Hegseth, 44, is a former U.S. Army veteran and has been a Fox News host since 2014. Before joining Fox, he graduated from Princeton and served as an infantry captain in the National Guard, with deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Guantanamo Bay. Known for his strong support of service members accused of war crimes, he notably urged President Trump to pardon several soldiers facing such charges.

Hegseth also previously led Concerned Veterans for America, an organization backed by conservative donors to advocate for healthcare services for veterans. If confirmed by the Senate to be Secretary of Defense, he will face pressing issues such as conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. However, U.S. media highlight his lack of extensive military and national security expertise, contrasting him with previous defense secretaries who had substantial senior command experience.
