The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has proposed that Google sell its Chrome browser as a remedy to address its unlawful monopoly in online search. The DOJ also suggested that Google may need to split off Android if it does not restrict its use to disadvantage competitors.
Additionally, Google would be banned from re-entering the search market for five years and prohibited from signing exclusive contracts with browser or mobile device companies. The DOJ has also demanded that Google license its search data to competitors and refrain from using publishers' data to train AI models if the measures are approved.
If implemented, these remedies could weaken Google’s position, particularly in competing with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Anthropic in the AI sector.
