Liverpool 2-0 Manchester City: Guardiola Responds to "Sacked in the Morning" Chants

Liverpool defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield, with goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. The win extended City's winless streak to seven games, including six defeats. After Salah's penalty secured Liverpool's lead in the 78th minute, fans chanted "sacked in the morning" at City's manager, Pep Guardiola. In response, Guardiola held up six fingers, referencing City's Premier League titles under his leadership.

Guardiola expressed surprise at the chants, stating, "I didn’t expect it at Anfield... but it’s part of the game." Despite the banter, he acknowledged the mutual respect between the teams, noting their history of intense battles.

Liverpool's early dominance was evident, with Gakpo scoring in the 12th minute. Salah missed a clear chance in the second half but later converted a penalty after Stefan Ortega fouled Luis Díaz.

The result leaves Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the league. Their next game is against Newcastle United on Wednesday, while City will face Nottingham Forest.
