South Korean police recently seized a highly secure phone during a raid at the Ministry of National Defense headquarters on December 12. The phone is believed to be linked to the brief martial law imposed by President Yoon Suk-yeol on the night of December 3 and the early hours of December 4. The investigation aims to uncover evidence of directives issued by President Yoon and former Defense Minister Kim through this secured phone.
Despite difficulties in accessing documents from security agencies, the police obtained some materials from the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and servers connected to the Capital Defense Command.
The crisis has also escalated internationally, with President Yoon accusing Chinese nationals of espionage. This prompted Beijing to express dissatisfaction and firmly oppose the allegations. A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized South Korea for linking its internal issues with China, thereby harming bilateral relations.
