The Western Seoul District Court has approved an arrest warrant for South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol after he refused to appear as requested by the Office of High-Ranking Officials’ Anti-Corruption Investigation (CIO). This marks the first time in South Korea's history that an arrest warrant has been issued for a sitting president. The CIO has 48 hours to execute the warrant, but the arrest faces challenges due to interference from the Presidential Security Agency citing military security concerns.
President Yoon has denied the allegations related to declaring martial law, asserting that his actions were within the scope of executive authority. He also criticized the opposition party for abusing the impeachment process.
