Breaking News: South Korea's presidential guards and military troops blocked the arrest of impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol in a tense six-hour standoff at his residence on Friday. Yoon is under investigation for insurrection following his controversial declaration of martial law on December 3, marking the first arrest warrant ever issued for a sitting president.
The Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) and police, attempting to execute the warrant, were outnumbered by more than 200 Presidential Security Service (PSS) agents and military personnel. The standoff ended after concerns over safety, and the CIO called off the attempt. Yoon's legal team argued the arrest attempt was illegal, and his impeachment case is currently under review by the Constitutional Court.
