Ho Chi Minh City has officially approved a new policy to waive tuition fees for all students from preschool to high school, starting in the 2025-2026 academic year. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families and promote equal access to education.
According to VN Economy, the policy will apply to students in both public and private schools, excluding international institutions. Previously, only primary school students and five-year-old kindergarteners were exempt from tuition fees, while middle school students received partial support. With this new measure, the city will become the first in Vietnam to offer free education across all levels.
Local authorities have allocated approximately 653 billion VND to fund the program, as reported by Tuoi Tre. This budget will cover 423 billion VND for public schools and 230 billion VND for private institutions.
The decision aligns with the city's broader efforts to improve educational access and was introduced in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the country’s reunification, NLD stated.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in Vietnam's education system and may set a precedent for other regions to follow.
