Did the Fish Drown?

Wait... can fish even drown?

Okay, so here’s the deal. Fish live in water and breathe by using gills. Gills pull oxygen out of the water so fish can breathe, kind of like our lungs but underwater.

But yeah, fish can technically “drown” — if there’s not enough oxygen in the water (like if it’s super polluted or too warm), their gills can’t get what they need, and they’ll suffocate. Not exactly “drowning” like a human, but same sad result.

Also, if a fish gets stuck or its gills get damaged, it can’t breathe right. Again — no oxygen, game over.

So yeah, fish don’t drown like we do, but they can totally die from lack of oxygen.

Fish drowning? Weird but true.
